Winter 2008
communications in brief
1) newsletter- ramotse (sorry for this spelling) and warachel will become co-editors. this
will last as long as ramotse wants warachel aid. the hope is to
get out a version now and maybe one in time for the apa
annual meeting. there were continued discussion
about virtues of going all electronic versus having a paper version. perhaps one solution, based on fiscal issues, would be to
print them to hand out at meetings, but forego the cost of mailing them
out. the issue of finances will dictate this to
some degree- we will do what our finances allow.
WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR CONTENT
2) journal- jackie is the new editor.
YEAH!!!! we will now work on getting a renewed
contract with springer between the aacp and the journal. the
goal is to have the journal revamped and jackie is up
to the task.
3) email- email problems seem to have plagued the board email list in planning
for this conference. not sure why. its possible that server has been backed up (we use the pitt server). i
have asked patrick to shift this email list to his
server. there were no complaints about the email
lists otherwise. there is some interest, led by walter, in trying to summarize some of the erudite email
conversations we have. hopefully this will work.
4) website- use of the website varies from boardmember
to boardmember. some
find it indispensable and some dont use it. we suspect that the membership also have varying uses for
it. our goal is to move into web 2.0
technology. this would include building in a social networking feature so
that our members with shared interests can more easily find each other, using blogging and other interactive technology (such as online conferences, surveys etc), and develop the capacity
to hang podcasts and presentations on the site (i am going to try to gather some of the presentations for a
page on the winter meeting). obviously we are
hampered by a lack of funds to generate these capacities, but will work with
the executive to generate the necessary resources.
actions
1) continue production of newsletter- editors. please send content
2) pursue revamp of journal and renegotiate contract between aacp and springer- editor
3) move all aacp email lists to patricks
computer, with his approval
4) investigate web 2.0 opportunities and cost them- patrick

5) post presentations from winter meeting on website- slide and podcast if possible.
respectfully submitted
