New Cultural Competence Video Available: The Culture of Emotions The Culture of Emotions is a 60-minute video program with companion study guide designed to teach cultural competence and diversity skills in the medical and psychiatric fields, to professionals in the behavioral health and primary health care sectors, and at continuing education seminars across the nation. The video features didactic interviews and skill building exercises with distinguished researchers and clinicians from the ethnic and culturally diverse populations which present for treatment across the spectrum of public and private health care systems. The videotape introduces the DSM-IV Outline for Cultural Formulation: a diagnostic system for assessment and treatment of psychiatric distress phenomena across cultural boundaries and diagnostic categories. Scientific advisors for the video include Francis Lu, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and Juan Mezzich, MD, PhD. Professor and Head of Psychiatric Epidemiology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. The video is produced by public television and education film producer Harriet Koskoff. The video will be screened at the IPS meeting in Chicago on Wednesday October 9 at 6:30pm.
