The AACP List Serv Archive

What is it?

The AACP List Serv is an electronic mailing list, a vibrant virtual community of community psychiatrists.  Some of the more interesting discussions are presented below in digest form.

In any typical week, you'll find debates about proposed legislation, problem-solving sessions with participants from across the country, job postings and conference announcements.

Best of all  the List Serv is open to only members of the AACP which means no annoying solicitations or off topic spam. If you are a member of the AACP and wish to join the List Serv, contact Francis M. Roton via email at frda1@airmail.net.

A Sample of List Serv Topics

Here is just a smattering of the topics which have been addressed on the AACP List Serv.

A Clinical Process Question--Writing Progress Notes During the Session  This discussion from August, 1999 revolves around the issue of writing progress notes during the session while the patient is present.

"Charitable Choice" of Faith Based Counseling   This discussion from the Summer of 1999 focuses on the role of religion in mental health treatment and was spurred by legislation which was being considered in Washington D.C.

Nurse Practitioners  With the pressure on health care administrators to decrease cost and increase productivity, some agencies have greatly expanded the role of Nurse Practitioners. The AACP list-serv members discussed the many implications of this.

Productivity  This discussion centers on the issues involved in the whole gamut of  productivity: from scheduling patient follow-ups to team vs. individual sessions and everything in between.

Revision of the Position Statement on the People with Mental Illness Behind Bars  From the fall of 1997 through the end of 1998 the AACP struggled with the issues concerning the alarmingly increasing occurrence of people with mental illness behind bars.  The discussions, presented below in digest form, range from identifying all the problems inherent with this increase to the ethical and effective treatment of this population. Because of the length of this discussion it's been broken down into five smaller parts.  The entire discussion may be downloaded as a ZIP file and read at  your leisure. The final position statement can be found on the AACP Findings/Products page.
